Flick Hints at Barcelona as His Final Stop, Delays Contract Talks
Hansi Flick has surprised many by suggesting that FC Barcelona could be the final club of his managerial career, while also downplaying immediate talks over a contract renewal. Following recent comments from club president Joan Laporta about extending his deal, Flick addressed the topic during a press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Newcastle United. The German coach made it clear that now is not the right time to discuss his future. “It’s not the moment to talk about a renewal,” Flick said. “We have a very important match ahead. Everyone knows I’m very happy here, but I need to speak with my family. There will be time for that later.” However, he went a step further by hinting that Barcelona could be his last job in football. “I feel like I have a big family here and strong support from the club,” he added. “I’m here to help the team reach the highest level. I don’t see myself going elsewhere—this will be my last club, my final job, and I’m very happy.” Flick also commented on a recent meeting with Laporta and the squad, emphasizing the importance of stability within the club. “It’s important to have structure,” he said. “We have a good one that gives us stability. We were all pleased with the visit and the encouragement ahead of the match.”
